The first of a set of my thoughts on travel, on cities, on why we visit and how they shape our world views, which I intend to share for the next few months. I thought I would begin this on the fateful day when, 30 years ago, the Berlin Wall came down and so did the Iron Curtain separating the free world from countries under the oppressive Soviet regime.
Was inspired after reading Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities recently. Was also inspired by Annie Spratt’s photographs on Unsplash.

I have also finished reading Calvino’s If On a Winter’s Night a Traveller, and it is another great piece of inventive storytelling. Will be sharing my thoughts on both these books soon.
What do you folks think about when you travel?
